The Roscommon County Council Library Services local studies collection comprises a comprehensive collection of books, periodicals, maps, photographs, newspapers, digitised items and ephemera on the history and heritage of county Roscommon. It is based at Library HQ in Roscommon.

The collection also has an extensive range of local history files which include copies of articles from journals, newspaper cuttings, maps etc relating to all aspects of Roscommon history, culture, archaeology, people and places.

We have a local studies area in Roscommon library where researchers can consult the literature and use the microfilm reader and designated local studies computer with printing and photocopying services.

As most people have an interest in the history of their own locality, a small local history collection has been placed in each branch library.
